Over thirty chaplains and pastoral care workers representing 12 different organisations (including several staff from Baptcare) gathered for a Forum on Spiritual Care and Family Violence on Thursday 17th September held at Maribyrnong City Council Reception Room in Footscray.
The forum was sponsored by Baptcare Pastoral Care, Salvation Army Social Housing Services and Spiritual Care Australia. Endorsed also by Brimbank and Maribyrnong Interfaith Network and the local councils. Presenters included Dr. Robyn Gregory, CEO of Women’s Health West, Monique Toohey, Principle Psychologist at Nasihah Consulting and Jen Allen, Executive Director of Victorian Institute of Counselling and Coaching. The current epidemic of Family Violence, its causes and dynamics was discussed as well as some excellent insights into culturally sensistive approaches and keys to recovery in the support of clients and families who have experienced family violence. Pastoral and Spiritual care plays a vital part alongside other helping professions in the healing and restoration of men, women and children in the aftermath of family violence as we partner with them on the path to fullness of life. An new network of Chaplains and Pastoral Care workers in the Community Sector was also proposed.
